Door County

Founded in 1851, Door County stretches 60 miles from the nationally recognized Belgian Heritage Site in Southern Door, through the storied shipbuilding town of Sturgeon Bay and up to the peninsula’s tip, where the once perilous waters of Death’s Door gave the county its name. In between lie small towns and villages, rolling farm fields, and conifer and hardwood forest, plus the nearly 300 miles of shoreline that make Door County so beloved to generations of residents and visitors. Door County’s cultural scene is vibrant, attracting artists from across the nation who have established galleries, studios, theaters and concert halls up and down the peninsula. But above all, it is the people of Door County who make this a wonderful place to live. The combination of generations-strong families with a spirit of welcoming to visitors and new residents, the county is community minded in the truest sense of the word.
