Real Estate Proposed Legal Settlement

The recent legal battle and proposed settlement concerning the real estate industry has resulted in a large amount of misleading and downright false information. While the proposed settlement does have implications for our local REALTORS® Associations as well as agencies like True North Real Estate, Wisconsin law differs from other states in ways that affect key aspects of the settlement.

A very important point to be made is that there is not, and never has been, a standard commission rate established nationwide, statewide or in a local marketplace. In addition, real estate commissions have always been and will continue to be negotiable. These standard practices benefit the buyer, seller, and agent alike by ensuring that prices are fair and that clients receive the best possible service.

In Door County, as well as all of Wisconsin, real estate licensees are required to use state-approved forms, which already include many of the pro-consumer policies addressed in the NAR proposed settlement agreement. These forms and agreements explain how commissions are earned and how compensation is received or paid to real estate firms cooperating in the real estate transaction. In addition, Wisconsin has encouraged and required written buyer agency agreements for buyer clients for more than 20 years, meaning that another stipulation addressed in the proposed NAR settlement was addressed here many years ago. The Wisconsin REALTORS® Association, the Door County Board of REALTORS®, and True North Real Estate take pride in providing excellent service to our clients while ensuring that the transaction benefits all parties involved equally. Regardless of legal battles and their repercussions, our guiding light is helping Door County buyers and sellers achieve their dreams. in the words of our customers

My wife and I recently purchased a lot in Egg Harbor and used Maria [Jacobs] from True North as our agent. We really enjoyed working with her throughout the process. She did a great job of learning what we were looking for, providing us with relevant facts / information, answering all our questions and communicating with us always in a timely manner. We simply could not have been more pleased with our decision to work with Maria!

door county living

Fish Creek Harbor

Living in a vacation destination creates an interesting dichotomy: while sharing your environment with crowds of tourists in full “vacation mode” may make for challenges while going about your daily routine, it is the very thing that attracts those crowds to your environment that makes it a great place to live.

Door County is a particularly powerful example of that dichotomy, with our overall lack of chain restaurants and scenery-blocking billboards, along with majestic natural beauty, plentiful arts and entertainment, and unique small shops and eateries.

Door County’s growth as a full-time home for many former part-time visitors is a testament to the benefits of tourism for the residents of our community. Many of those new full-timers choose to open new businesses that cater to visitors and residents alike.
